Welcome to Hook Players

Our Spring Production will be Death by Fatal Murder, a hilarious comedy by Peter Gordon. This is one of a series of plays about the investigations of Defective Detective Inspector Pratt, now widely recognised to have been England’s most confused policeman. The action is set in 1940 in Bagshot Manor, also the scene of his earlier investigation in 1939, which was staged by Hook Players as Murdered to Death in 2010.

In Death by Fatal Murder, Pratt  and Constable Thomkins are sent to investigate the disappearance of a police constable. The village sleuth, Miss Joan Maple, is also involved and the action is further complicated by the presence of the Manor’s paying guests – a Welsh medium and an Italian gigolo. As usual where Pratt is concerned, things are not as they seem and hilarious chaos ensues.

This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Ltd.

Join in the fun!

It’s not all about being on the stage.

So much goes on backstage including set design, painting and building, making costumes, make-up, sound, lighting and special effects, gathering props or simply helping with the front-of-house on performance nights. If you are interested in getting involved, even if you don’t see yourself treading the boards,  please email . There is something for everyone.

If you can’t get involved this time, then please buy a ticket, sit back and enjoy the show.

Play Readings

We are actively seeking plays for future productions and holding play readings, where members read through possible scripts. If you are interested in attending, please send your details via for more information. These play readings are very informal and you don’t have to read if you don’t want to. It’s a great initial introduction to Hook Players and is a good opportunity to meet the group.
